There’s something about Puerto Rico that always feels like a breath of fresh air—the kind that fills your lungs with salty ocean breezes and your soul with an unshakable sense of calm. In November 2022, I packed my bags, my camera, and my curiosity for a trip that felt both spontaneous and deeply needed. From the quiet coastline of Vega Baja to the untouched paradise of Culebra, every moment was an adventure worth capturing.
My trip began in Vega Baja, a town that doesn’t always make it to the top of travel guides but absolutely should. It felt like stepping into a local’s version of paradise—untouched beaches, friendly faces, and food that made me rethink everything I thought I knew about flavors.
Our stay in Vega Baja was all about embracing the slower side of life. We stayed at a gorgeous ocean front villa where the amenities were plenty! The house was beautifully clean and the backyard was more than I could ever ask for. The mornings started with the sound of waves instead of alarms, and I enjoyed peaceful mornings on the beach with a cup of espresso and an acai bowl. It was truly a needed experience that brought the peace and relaxation.

Our day at Playa Jobos was nothing short of magical. We spent hours soaking up the sun, enjoying the crystal-clear waters, and watching surfers carve through the waves. The beach had the perfect mix of energy and relaxation—whether you wanted to swim, lounge, or just take in the stunning views.
As the afternoon rolled in, so did the rain, but it only added to the adventure. We took cover at Uma’s Restaurant, a beachfront gem, where we indulged in some of the best tacos while listening to the sound of the waves crashing just steps away.
Rain or shine, Playa Jobos delivered an unforgettable experience, blending beach vibes, surf culture, and amazing food into the perfect day trip. Can’t wait to go back!
After soaking in the beauty of Vega Baja, we set off for Culebra, a tiny, remote island known for its untouched beauty and laid-back charm. We hopped on a puddle jumper from San Juan, and I can honestly say both flights were breathtaking. As we soared over the vibrant turquoise waters, we caught stunning aerial views of Puerto Rico’s islands, a sight that felt straight out of a postcard.
Despite the smooth and scenic 45-minute flight, these planes are incredibly small—so small that every passenger is weighed beforehand to ensure proper weight distribution. On the way back, that meant I got to ride shotgun with the pilot! It was an unforgettable experience—slightly intimidating at first, but ultimately thrilling and surreal.
Culebra is the definition of simplicity and untouched beauty—no towering hotels, no sprawling resorts—just charming guesthouses, cozy rentals, and pure island serenity. From the moment we landed, the laid-back nature of the island was clear. The only transportation options? A jeep or a golf cart, a perfect reflection of Culebra’s small, intimate feel.
I was lucky enough to stay at a friend’s seasonal rental, where mornings were spent sipping coffee, enjoying fresh fruit, and soaking in the peaceful surroundings. With the sounds of nature all around and the ocean never far away, Culebra offered a true escape from the fast-paced world. A place where simplicity isn’t just a lifestyle—it’s the magic of the island itself.
Flamenco Beach is easily one of the most beautiful beaches I’ve ever seen. The kind of place that looks too perfect to be real—white sand, water so clear you can see the fish swimming around your toes, and palm trees that feel like they belong on a postcard.
I spent hours just floating in the turquoise water, camera in hand, trying to capture the feeling of complete and utter peace. And of course, I couldn’t resist snapping some shots of the abandoned military tanks that have become part of the landscape, now covered in vibrant graffiti.
Culebra may be a tiny island, but the food? Unreal. Here are a few spots that stole my heart (and stomach):
This trip wasn’t just about escaping—it was about immersing myself in a place that felt wild, untamed, and deeply alive. Puerto Rico has a way of reminding you to slow down, to savor every meal, every wave, every golden sunset.
Looking back at my photos, I don’t just see landscapes and food—I see the feeling of being fully present, of experiencing a place with every sense awake and alive. And if that isn’t the reason we travel, I don’t know what is!
